The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says a Farmington man arrested earlier this week on sex abuse charges has previously worked at four other locations where he interacted with children.
Sean Smith, 43, is charged with one count of sexual abuse in the first degree.
Investigators say Smith forced a girl under the age of eleven to touch his private parts. Police say the incident took place Monday at Jack & Jill Child Care in Victor.
As part of their investigation, deputies are releasing more details about Smith's prior employment. They say he's worked at numerous childcare centers since 1995. They include: Victor Childcare Center; The Learning Center, which has since closed; the Victor YMCA and the Mendon Childcare Center.
Investigators are asking parents whose children may have had contact with Smith to contact them with any concerns. That number of (585) 396-4638.
The Victor YMCA says Sean Smith has not been employed there since 2000, but says it is cooperating with police regarding the investigation.
In a statement, the Y said:
"The safety and security of our members is our number one priority. Our organization does not tolerate behavior that compromises the safety and well-being of youth in our services.
The YMCA takes all necessary steps to ensure that trained and qualified staff members are employed."
FROM VICTOR CHILD CARE
Smith’s employment with us was more than 18 years ago. It was very brief and ended due to circumstances unrelated to children.
Our Center is designed with an open layout. The classrooms have half walls which allow visibility to children and staff members at all times. Our policies and practices are in place to help ensure the safe care of the children.
It is unfortunate that a person like this makes it so difficult for day care staff to do the work they love. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families involved with this incident.
