A new business has moved into the Park Avenue neighborhood in Rochester. The Bodymind Float Center has officially opened in the Park Berkeley Plaza.
Owned by husband and wife team David Brickman and Patricia Sunwoo, the Bodymind Float Center is the first of its kind in Rochester.
Clients are put into a float tank, which is light and sound proof. Eight-hundred pounds of salt is dissolved in the water to enable them to float effortlessly.
The process of floating is meant to relax clients through the lack of sensory stimulation.
"The brain gets a tremendous break from its otherwise constant processing duties. You're not processing sound, smells, touch, you're not hearing anything except your own breathing," Brickman said.
Brickman and Sunwood said floating offers relief from physical ailments and has been known to help with sleep disorders and addictions.
