Friends say a fight, possibly over a card game, has left one man dead and another injured.
Brockport police arrested Thomas Bennett, 29, of Brockport, and charged him with Murder in connection with a fight that left Noel VanDorn, 24, dead at the scene.
VanDorn was stabbed multiple times outside a Brockport bar overnight.
"Oh, my God to see him, very much in shock it's sad," said Michelle Little.
Little got a wake up call Sunday morning that started her nightmare.
"I got woke up at 2:05 to tell me they were doing CPR on him in the middle of the street," said Little.
She says her friend Noel VanDorn was fatally stabbed outside of Rocco's Bar on Brockport's Clinton Street. Friends say he was fighting someone he knew, possibly over a card game.
"He got in a tragic fight that turned bad," said Little.
Police say an officer driving by the scene saw the end of the fight between Bennett and VanDorn.
"He didn't deserve," said Little.
Even though the bar is right across the street from the Brockport Police Department, neighbors say they are still not surprised that this happened.
"I hear fights and hooting and hollering all the time," said Rob Monet.
But what Monet says he never hears is a situation going this far.
"I can't believe it. Somebody died in my backyard. Wow," he said.
Homicides in the college town are few and far between.
"It's just very sad to hear because it's a small town and Brockport doesn't have a reputation like that, It's just shocking. It's a shame that that happened," said resident Mary Profetta.
Police say neither of the men were local students. The bar is surrounded with surveillance video, but police are still looking for witnesses to help piece everything together.
"I don't want to speak of the nature of the injuries at this point. As I said it's still early on. We don't have a medical examiner's report yet," said Brockport Police Chief Daniel Varrenti.
Friends say VanDorn had just moved back to this neighborhood from North Carolina.
They say he wanted to be closer to his daughter.
"He has a kid that's no longer with a dad. Two families are going to be torn," said Little.
