The University of Rochester hosted the Finger Lakes FIRST LEGO League Tournament Kick-Off event on Saturday to reveal the tournament’s challenge and theme.
This year's event theme is “Nature’s Fury," a LEGO challenge that will explore innovative solutions to protect people during natural disasters.
On November 23rd, 1,500 kids ages 6 through 14 will compete in eight tournaments throughout the Finger Lakes region.
"What this does is bring science and technology down to a level where kids can understand it. So, they have a project piece in which they need to create a project that tells people how they can deal with the natural disaster and they also have a robot piece which is the fun part for them that allows them to program a LEGO robot to do different missions," said Elayne Stewart, Co-Tournament Director.
Thirty-six teams will advance to the championship tournament at U of R on December 8th.
