Tech Beat: CES NY 12

We haven't even hit this holiday season yet, but we are already getting a glimpse at what the holiday season 2013 has in store. That's thanks to the CES Unveiled preview event held each year in the Big Apple, a small taste of what's to come at the giant Consumer Electronics Show held each January in Las Vegas. Adam Balkin reports.

“We'll see at the 2013 CES in January ultra high definition, we'll see more smartphones, we're going to be the biggest app show in the world, applications contests things like that plus look there are 3,000 companies showing the coolest, neatest, newest, best, greatest products,” said Gary Shapiro, Consumer Electronics Association.

And while TVs, tablets, and phones are easy to spot there are dozens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of off-the-beaten-path type innovations out there...innovations in areas of your life you might not expect much technology.

“We have a digital health summit, a fitness summit, a silver summit for boomers, babies, moms, kids, and higher education,” said Robin Raskin, Living in Digital Times.

Now, I've been to about ten CES shows and I thought I'd seen just about every single object anyone could think of get techni-fied, so to speak, but apparently I thought wrong.

It’s being billed as the world's first digital fork. Called the HAPI fork, it measure how you're eating in order to help you eat slower.

“The fork is going to be tracking three important data: the time you eat, the number of fork servings, and then the time between each fork serving,” said Fabrice Boutain, HAPILABS.

Developers say by coaching you eat slower it can help you lose weight, digest your food better, and help prevent gastric reflux.
