Gui.de
South by Southwest is officially gunning for my job. The conference, a popular jumping off point for new apps, has this year brought out the team behind Gui.de.
It's an upcoming app that'll take your online news, blogs and social streams – text -- and turn them into TV news-like broadcasts complete with virtual anchor men, or women, or anchor dogs, if you prefer.
“We have six patents pending, it's a very ambitious piece of technology. Our backend is something called the ‘Gui.de engine’ and it actually goes out to the news sites you read, pulls out the text, pulls any images, any video, any social interactions, comments, whatever, runs it through our process and we intelligently analyze it and then play it back in a compelling video format,” said Freddie Laker, Gui.de.
Guide will work, initially, on computers and iPads, when it launches in a few weeks.
Gravidi
And there is another great SXSW app, which brings together all three aspects of the convention: movies, music, and technology. Plus, it went live on Apple's app store at the show.
Called Gravidi, right now you watch movie trailers or music video on there. But as you watch, you see dots that float by. Click on them and up pops the answers to some questions you may have had about what you're watching.
“If it's a music video you can find out where those bands are playing on tour, you can get tickets. If it's a film you can get photo galleries, editorial content about the actual film, a wealth of information,” explained Gregg Weiss, Gravidi.
Gravidi is a free app right now for iPads only.
