Baby Video Monitors Recalled

By: YNN Staff

Summer Infant is voluntarily recalling about 1.7 million video baby monitors with electrical cords. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the cords present a strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers if they are placed to close to a crib.

Summer Infant will be giving out new product labels and instructions to consumers with recalled video monitors distributed between January 2003 and February 2011. The video monitors were sold at major retailers across the country and the brand "Summer" is found on the product.

Over the past year, two infant deaths were reported where a camera had been placed on a crib rail and the other on an attached changing table. That makes a total of seven infant deaths since 2004.

The CPSC and Summer Infant are urging consumers who have the video monitors in their home to check their location to ensure they are out of arm's reach of children.
