Trial date set for Monserrate
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- A September trial date has been set by a judge for a lawsuit against Senator Hiram Monserrate.
He is accused of slashing his girlfriend's face with broken glass during an argument last year. A judge denied a motion Thursday to dismiss the case against the senator, who said that this is all just a big misunderstanding.

"To my day in court, from the very beginning, I have said that this was an accident. Carla has said this was an accident. This was an accident, and I look forward to being exonerated based on the truth," said Monserrate.
Police investigators said they have a video showing Senator Monserrate attacking her. If he is convicted of assault, he will lose his seat in the Senate.
