The New York Senate is holding hearings on whether
a State senator convicted of assaulting his girlfriend should remain in office.
Senator Hiram Monserrate is on probation for injuries to his girlfriend, after he dragged her through his apartment lobby in
December of last year.
The hearing Tuesday is looking at whether Monserrate is fit to
remain in the Legislature.
A number of lawmakers, and other public officials have called for his
resignation.
