ALBANY, N.Y. -- A Long Island state senator has taken the next step to remove Hiram Monserrate from his Senate seat.
Democratic Senator Brian Foley submitted a resolution Friday calling for the expulsion of Monserrate. Monserrate was convicted of misdemeanor assault against his girlfriend in October.
A special Senate committee created to investigate the allegations against Monserrate released a report last week indicating that he was no longer fit to serve office.
Monserrate says he isn't going anywhere, and he plans to fight any effort to push him out of office.
