As Rochester mayoral incumbent Tom Richards takes the lead in our latest, exclusive YNN Voice of the Voter, Siena Research Poll, voters are weighing in with their opinions and concerns.
The top issues amongst poll participants are education, economic development, crime and jobs.
"In the 20 years that I lived here I've seen the Maplewood Neighborhood go down hill," said city resident Andreas Rau.
Rau is a Lovely Warren supporter. He says he is also very involved in his community and neighborhood improvement.
"Dealing with the city to improve things has proved to be impossible," he said.
Rau says one of his biggest concerns is crime.
"In the 14 days we've had six murders, pretty much within this vicinity. Tell me again how crime is down?," he said. "He has not made the city better. Maybe certain segments of it."
It's the improvement in those certain segments that drive city resident Jerry Dee's vote for Richards.
"We are really beginning to see the Windstream building, Midtown Tower, and building along Main Street," said Jerry Dee.
Dee is a carpenter for a local union. To him economic development and job growth are priorities.
"The city is getting put back together again," said Dee. "It was in tough shape for a bit, for a collection of different reasons, but to see our Main Street change. It had been really dormant for a long time."
Dee says he believes Richards has already played a major part in improving the city. He's hoping if elected mayor, that will continue.
"His leadership and his background will serve everybody well," said Dee.
