U of R Ceremony Dedicated to First Responders
For some fire fighters, police officers, and EMS workers, the attacks of 9/11 inspired them to become first responders.

The Monroe County Fire Bureau, members of Rural-Metro Ambulance, and elected leaders attended a colorful memorial service at the University of Rochester.

Andrew Wilkinson was in college 10 years ago.

He said those who rushed into the twin towers inspired him to want to help others.

"It was a big deciding factor for me to join the fire service. To pay my respects for the time and service for those who gave and are unable to give any more. Emotionally it's a good reminder of why would treasure this county and the freedoms that we have," said Wilkinson.

The University of Rochester lost a member of its family on 9/11, 1993 U of R graduate Jeremy Glick was aboard Flight 93 when it crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

A scholarship has been established at the school in his memory.
