Welcome to the Warsaw pole vault club. Made up of three Section 5 vaulters and Buffalo's top three vaulters, the group meets in a building off of Mike Auble's garage.

Among the three seniors in the group is Brighton's Shawn Henderson, who is a legacy act to the event.

“I first started in 8th grade, and my dad was a pole vaulter at Greece Arcadia so, he's the one that got me into it and I've been working at it ever since. I came here over the summer, getting better," said Shawn.

During the winter, the group works on technique and strength. There is a full runway and landing pad in the backyard.

"I came here and actually learned the right techniques, learned everything, started
over and gone from here, and all this equipment is very helpful that other people don't even have," said Eden Wondra, a junior from Perry.

Wondra comes from a gymnastics background and has gone from practicing up against a gym wall at Perry to scholarship possibilities.

"She can do a lot of the acrobatic things that I am horrible, I am terrible at them, so it's great because she pushes me to get better at those,” said Karmen Auble.

Karmen is the star pupil. A freshman at Warsaw, she's broken 15 age group records in two years with no signs of slowing down.

"I have specific goals. Not many people other than me and my dad and some of my friends know them,” said Karmen. “Try and pursue them as best I can, and if I don't get 'em, set 'em for the next year or the next season and just keep going for it."

Kendra and Eden are one-girl teams who compete with Dansville, but the club is their team.

"My family is pretty much all these people standing here in this pole vault club and Eden
Wondra is my teammate, we do everything together, we practice together, it's pretty much how you do," said Kendra.

Shawn Henderson has the best boys vault in Section 5 at 14’ 4”. Karmen Auble has the best girls vault at 11’ 7”. All six vaulters could end up meeting at Cornell at the state meet.
