OLEAN, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure Lady Bonnies are on the precipice of the greatest season in program history.
The team sits at 20-2, undefeated in Atlantic 10 play, and is ranked 26th in the Associated Press poll; just one spot out of cracking the top 25 for the first time in the Lady Bonnies 40-year history.
While the ladies are excited about the national prominence, to a player they say this is just one step in their ultimate goal of reaching the NCAA women's tournament for the first time ever.
“That's the goal we have had for four years as a senior class to get there. The WNIT was great the last three years, but we want to be done with that and more on to the NCAA tournament,” said Jessica Jenkins, senior guard.
St. Bonaventure purposely left a gap in the rafters to be filled by the final banner from this senior class; a senior class that is led by Jenkins, its hardest worker and National Player of the Week.
“I'm just glad we don't have to play against her, she is just really good. Her work ethic shows that, I'm just glad that she is our teammate,” said Armelia Horton, senior guard.
“She has been huge. I am so glad to be on a team with her than against her. She is the best shooter I have seen so far. I am so glad to be in the same class,” said Megan Van Tatenhove, senior forward.
This senior class needs just nine more points to earn a spot in the Top 25. The Lady Bonnies play three of the next four games on the road, with the lone home date coming Saturday, February 4th when they welcome George Washington to the Reilly Center.
