SYRACUSE, N.Y. - It may not be a highly-regarded recruiting class outside of the Syracuse University football wing, but the coaching staff was quite pleased with its results from National Signing Day Wednesday.

The Orange added three players rated as 4-star prospects (out of 5) by various recruiting services: safety Wayne Morgan, from Brooklyn, quarterback Ashton Broyld, a Rochester-area native who is already enrolled at SU, and tight end Ron Thompson, from Michigan.

The class features seven players from New York State, which head coach Doug Marrone prioritizes, including one local recruit in Christian Brothers Academy offensive lineman Ben Barrett.

Marrone said SU's upcoming move to the Atlantic Coast Conference opened up some new doors in that conference's mid-Atlantic and southern footprint, and recruiting coordinator Greg Adkins said the team's collapse last season did not negatively impact the program's attractiveness as the players are focusing on the future and not the past.
