Former Red Wing Clyburn Shot and Killed
Former Rochester Red Wing outfielder Danny Clyburn was shot and killed Tuesday morning in Lancaster, South Carolina.
Clyburn helped lead the Red Wings to the Governors' Cup championship in 1997. That season, his batting average was .300; he hit 20 homers and had 76 runs batted in.
Clyburn played parts of three seasons in the majors with Baltimore and Tampa Bay in the 1990s.
According to The Herald newspaper, 36-year-old Derrick Lamont McIlwain was arrested and charged with murder. Witnesses told police Clyburn was in an argument before he was shot.
Danny Clyburn was 37 years old.
