Grant Heyman out of Pittsford Sutherland was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 11th round of the Major League Baseball earlier this month.
The 6-foot-4 outfielder, who was also a quarterback for the Panthers football team, has decided to attend the University of Miami instead. There, Heyman will play baseball and also has the chance to walk-on to the Hurricanes football team.
"I mean the University of Miami is like a country club really, the coach is awesome, the facilities are great, its right on the beach - I mean its a dream school. It really is, and they're a top program, too. They're battling for the college world series every year."
Heyman says it wasn't only baseball that drew him to the Hurricanes.
"It was the football part that came into it, I love football, love playing it. To play football and baseball at Miami is a huge opportunity. They expect me to start in left field next year, and of course nothing's guaranteed but that's the expectation that they have, so I'm going to work hard and come in and hopefully we'll win a college world series next year. I need to get bigger, faster, stronger and just progress my game, you know get more experience. The Miami coaches think I can be a first round pick and I believe them. Hopefully that will be a reality."
