Change in scenery may help Roy and Sabres
The Sabres big play on the trade market came Monday, when they sent Derek Roy to Dallas for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy. Darcy Regier said Roy's name had come up in trade discussions for some time.
The 29-year-old suffered through inconsistent play and injury issues the past couple of years, and after last season was critical of head coach Lindy Ruff for calling players out in the media.
The Sabres drafted Roy in 2001 - he was part of the organization his entire career. But sometimes parting ways is what's in the best interest of both sides.
"He did have some injuries and was coming back from a pretty serious injury the year before," Regier said. "I thought he was getting better, he had some good spots in the second half of the season. I honestly think he'll have a very good year this upcoming season. I think he'll be very good, very good for Dallas."
Roy is entering the final year of his contract as he heads to Dallas for the upcoming season.
