Frederick Roy Intrigues Fans at Sabres Camp

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Among the players on the ice at Sabres' development camp this week, one name is especially intriguing to fans in the crowd: Frederick Roy, the son of Patrick Roy.
"He's taught me one way to play the game, and that's the hard way, and it's 100 percent every time I step foot on that ice, I give my heart and soul to the team I'm playing with," Roy said.
"Whenever you're following your father around from city to city with is job, you fall in love with the game," said Marcus Foligno, son of Sabre great Mike Foligno. "It's just something that happens. In the NHL, there's a lot of fathers that played, and then their sons play. It's continuous."
After 180 points in 188 junior games, Roy is in Sabres camp on a tryout basis. Listed at 5'10", the 21-year-old was passed over in his draft year.
"I play both ways of the ice. I can score. I can pass. I'm more of a playmaker. I can play D-zone. I like to finish my checks. I've always played the same way. I've just got to show the scouts, the coaches, and everyone else," Roy said.
Frederick Roy has a strong connection to Sabres' top pick Mikhail Grigorenko. The two played on the same line in juniors, where Roy scored 92 points last season for the Quebec Ramparts.
"He was like one of the best linemates of my life, because with him - he makes you better. He'll always support you, and he works hard. He's a really smart player," Grigorenko said.
And a player hoping to earn a contract with the Sabres.
