Amerks' Leggio shines in Buffalo homecoming
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tuesday night was a special one at First Niagara Center as the Rochester Americans gave hungry hockey fans a taste of what they've been missing during the NHL lockout.
A crowd of nearly 11,000 watched the Buffalo Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate defeat Hamilton 3-1.
The night was even more special for Amerks goaltender David Leggio. A native of nearby Williamsville, Leggio made 36 saves to help the Amerks win their third straight. Among the 10,000-plus at the game were several of Leggio's family and friends.
"In the anthem I got a chance to reflect a little bit, just think about everything, coming up and how special it was to play in this building," said Leggio. "It was a little emotional for me and the team just came out and gave me an unbelievable effort and made it easy for me and made it special here in front of family and friends and I'll never forget it."
