Long season can be decided in short time
It's ironic how a football season can work. Months of planning make it a year round sport. Almost immediately after the season ends, fans start dissecting the draft, trying to do the work the scouts have been doing for months. Front offices are up late, for fear they add the wrong player to the club. That obsession carries us all the way into April, when "voluntary" offseason conditioning begins. Following the draft, we're immediately into rookie camp. Not long after rookie camp, OTAs begin. It's now May, and fans are seeing their favorite players back on the field again. June comes, and mandatory minicamps open around the NFL. Following those, we have only a couple weeks before we're back in training camp.
With all that preparation, all that hype, it's a scary thought that a season can be (and too many Bills seasons have been) ruined in just a six week period. That's where we stand with this Bills team. The squad is set to take on the first place team in the AFC, the Houston Texans, on the road. Next, it's a trip to New England, where they haven't won since 2000. Did I mention that both teams will be coming off their bye weeks? If the Bills aren't able to pull an upset, they'll fall to 3-6. That's a rough climb back to playoff contention, and would make losses in five of six, virtually ruining the Bills season in such a short time.
"I think the mind set's good," said Kyle Williams. "It's no easy task in front of us. But, I think mentally everybody is sharp and ready to get to work, and to go down to Houston and play a good football game."
"Guys are focused," added Fred Jackson. "It was good to take care of some injuries, get off of that, and come back and get mentally prepared to go through this run that we have ahead of us. Guys are definitely upbeat and ready to take on this challenge."
