Bonnies Look to Repeat as Atlantic-10 Champions

By: Greg Vorse

The St. Bonaventure Men's basketball program is coming off of a season where they made the NCAA's for the first time since 2000. This year's team doesn't just want to repeat, but prove they weren't a one man operation.

To repeat their Atlantic 10 championship, the Bonnies must first reload as they will be without their leading scorer and rebounder Andrew Nicholson, who was drafted 19th overall by the Orlando Magic. However, they know one player won't fill that void.

"We have to do it collectively, each guy has to elevate their game. We have to make up for 19 points and 8.5 rebounds and not one guy is going to do that." said Bonnies Head Coach Mark Schmidt

Next in line to help step up is senior Demitrius Conger - who was second on the team in both points and rebounds. Conger is coming off of an A-10 All-Championship team performance.

"Just try to improve in every aspect of my game. It is more of a team aspect than just about me, it will be a group effort." said Conger.

This year's group will include Michael Davenport and Marquise Simmons - both are coming off season ending injuries - and both could crack the starting lineup.

"With great teams you see a lot of consistency. Year after year they can put great years in back-to-back and that is what we are looking to do" said Davenport.

The Bonnies tip-off their season at home Friday, November 9th versus Bethune-Cookman.
