Players Vote to Give Executive Board Power to Decertify
Day 97 of the NHL Lockout saw the players' union get one step closer to dissolving.

The NHLPA voted to file a "Disclaimer of Interest," allowing the executive board to disband the union if and when it chooses. This comes following a five-day vote among 700-plus players.

The board now has until January 2nd to decide whether to decertify or not. Breaking up the NHLPA will allow the players to file an antitrust lawsuit against the league, but they will no longer be able to collectively bargain as a union.

The vote comes one day after the NHL canceled games through January 14th. The two sides have not met since last Thursday. No new talks are scheduled.
