Wambach Officially Added to WNY Flash Roster
The WNY Flash made it official on Monday, adding Abby Wambach to the roster for the 2013 season.
The Pittsford native expressed her excitement to the Western New York media in a conference call, and embraced her role in helping the newly formed National Women's Soccer League succeed.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to have a responsibility at making this league thrive. I've been a part of the two previous ones and they were fantastic experiences but they didn't survive and I think that's what we're all shooting for and that's the goal that I have in mind in terms of what to do and really what to do is going to be best to make sure this league survives," Wambach said. "It's not going to be about me or one single player on the national team. This is about making sure that the next generation has an opportunity to play and that's the thing that a lot of us haven't had in a while."
Wambach's addition comes on the heels a major honor. She was named FIFA's World Player of the Year after leading the United States to gold at the London Olympics.
A Flash spokeswoman said that season tickets are at an all-time high, and she expects the Flash to lead the league in attendance.
