It's a return to the postseason for Niagara basketball. The team is making its third trip to the NIT under coach Joe Mihalich and first since 2009.
The Purple Eagles play at Maryland in a first round matchup Tuesday night at 7:00 on ESPN2. Mihalich says the team had a great week of practice leading up to the next challenge against an ACC foe.
"What makes it so special is these guys are beyond their years," Mihalich said. "They're so young, as I've said so many times. Most people would say they shouldn't be here. But these guys just never believe that, they've overachieved all year long, and so we know we have to overachieve Tuesday night when we play and that will be the mindset we're in."
"It's win or go home," guard Antoine Mason said. "When we were in the MAAC Tournament it was win, or we go to the NIT. But it's win, or we can hang our jerseys - I don't feel like hanging our jerseys yet."
