Unquestionably the most recognized female soccer player in the world, Abby Wambach was back in Western New York on Wednesday.
Practicing for the first time with her Western New York Flash teammates, Wambach is the lone U.S. National team representative, for now. Carli Lloyd broke a bone in her shoulder and is expected to miss at least a month of the regular season.
Wambach, the reigning FIFA Women's Player of the Year, is hoping to draw attention to a franchise that has done pretty well in it's own right.
"Joe (Sahlen) and Aaran (Lines) have put together, not only a class franchise but a professional one. Everything, from top to bottom, is done in a professional manner, I feel like I'm at home. Not to mention the cold weather, the snow outside but the fact that the buildings are similar to Rochester, the people have the same accent, so, it's really great to be back in the Upstate New York area," she said.
