ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Wednesday of next week is the deadline to get EJ Manuel back on the field to be the Bills' opening day starter. If not, it's all on Jeff Tuel.
Tuel will get one more tune up Thursday night when the Bills host the Detroit Lions in the preseason finale.
With the team unlikely to carry four or five quarterbacks this season, the game will also give the Bills coaching staff a chance to check out the two new QBs - Matt Leinart and Thad Lewis.
"Really at the end of the day I think we are all going to be looking at the same thing. Who will be able to move the ball? We know that we have the effort and we know we got the time put in by those guys. They are both two good professionals. Really, at the end of the day, you are looking at the performance," said head coach Doug Marrone.
"I'm learning the system. I think I'll be prepared enough to go out there and move the ball and (offensive coordinator) Nate (Hackett) has said I'll put you in successful situations. You tell me what you are comfortable with and then it's just up to me studying and learning it which I feel comfortable doing," Leinart said.
