Any soccer fans who had a chance to get to Sahlen's Stadium in Downtown Rochester this season had to be captivated by the passion for women's soccer in our area.
That has certainly been magnified with the addition of Abby Wambach. Her intangibles added so much quality to the product on the field. Her leadership was paramount to the WNY Flash. Wambach was second in the league with 11 goals, and helped lead the Flash to a second half surge. They went all the way to the Championship game, an incredible run that came so close to a title.
"We grew throughout the season," Wambach said. "I think that we surprised people towards the end that we were in the hunt. And winning the regular season was great. Do I think we can build on this for years to come? Absolutely."
"(She had a) tremendous contribution to the WNY Flash this year," added coach Aaran Lines. "11 goals, 8 assists, and a lot more than that. She enjoyed being here with us. We enjoyed having her, and we look forward to next season."
