Zemgus Girgensons certainly made his mark in Sunday's shootout win with two goals. The 19-year old spent last season in Rochester, and really turned it up at playoff time, with three goals in a three-game series.
He carries the pedigree of a 2012 first round pick and knows it's production on the ice that will determine if he breaks camp with the big club.
"You know, it's a lot about the confidence. Of course a year in the AHL has given me a lot. I think just, this time it makes it easier that I have that confidence," said Girgensons.
Roster cuts have begun. The Sabres returned five players to their junior clubs Monday, including Williamsville's Justin Bailey.
The preseason continues Tuesday night in Columbus.
