Thomas Vanek took the ice Monday out on Long Island in his new uniform.
A two-time 40 goal scorer with the Sabres, Vanek has been placed on the top line joining John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, and will make his debut Tuesday night when the Islanders host the Rangers. The Sabres aren't scheduled to play the Islanders until March 15th.
"I was excited to come here to a great young team, up tempo style, and looking forward to it," Vanek said.
"We traded pretty much every veteran so the message was clear, that they were going for draft picks and youth," he added. "I think the last game we played four teenagers. Again, good young players but players take time. I enjoyed my time there, but I didn't want to be a part of that."
