BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres have placed right wing Patrick Kaleta on waivers.
Kaleta was eligible to return to the Sabres lineup after serving a 10-game suspension for a high hit on Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson on Oct. 10.
During his suspension, Kaleta had expressed a desire to change a playing style that's found him suspended or fined six times in his career, including a five-game suspension in March for a hit from behind on Brad Richards of the New York Rangers.
If no other team claims Kaleta on waivers, he will be eligible to report to Buffalo's American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester, N.Y.
"When we looked at where the league is, especially in my case coming out of three hearings, two for Patrick and one for John Scott, and where Patrick's game is currently, I think there is a significant amount of work that he will have to do to re-design his game in order to give him an opportunity to play," Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said.
