  • Stony Brook State Park - At only $7 per car load, it's a cool way to spend the day with three amazing waterfalls, gorge trails, bridges, picnicking and camping. You can bring your dog as long as you have a six-foot or less leash. See the website for full details. Open every day from dawn till dusk. No swimming. Getn' There: I-390 to Dansville Exit #4 to Route 36 South. Livingston County

    Stony Brook State Park

  • Green Lakes State Park - Just East of Syracuse, a very unique park with two meromictic lakes, no turnover of the water from bottom to top, making the lakes a crystal clear green-blue color. $8 per vehicle admission. Hiking, swimming, picnicking, fishing and more. See website for full details. Getn' There: NYS Thruway Exit 34A to 481 South to Rt. 5 east. Fayetteville, N.Y.

    Green Lakes State Park

  • Buttermilk Falls State Park - Follow Rt. 34 south of Ithaca, N.Y. to find some steep stepping among beautiful waterfalls and forest. Wear appropriate shoes for uphill stairs. No swimming at this time.

    Buttermilk Falls State Park

  • There IS swimming at Robert H. Treman State Park, just south of Buttermilk on Rt. 34. The park's old-fashioned swimming hole fed by a beautiful waterfall is perfect on a hot summer's day. Lifeguard on duty. Your $7 per vehicle can be used same day for both parks.
