Scott Batjer, 39, was convicted of 25 separate counts relating to illegal harvesting of bone and tissue from eight separate bodies.

Batjer was found guilty of allowing bodies awaiting cremation to be harvested without consent.

Batjer was the director of the Profetta Funeral Chapels in Webster and Irondequoit. He was found “not” guilty of second-degree scheme to defraud.

Assistant District Attorney Tim Prosperi said that based on the evidence he believes Judge Patricia Marks gave a fair verdict.

“It was hard in that it was very emotional for the family, and I hope that the verdict can give some families another way of closing the case for themselves, and help them in their closing grief for their loves ones and what happen to them,” said Prosperi.

Batjer faces 10 to 20 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for July 27.

Two other funeral directors have been in court on charges
of harvesting without consent. One has been convicted, the other
is awaiting trial.
