The Volunteers of America's "Your Caring Gifts" campaign, sponsored by YNN, helps families find affordable child care.
It also helps parents make the move from welfare to work.
"Single mom, three kids; it's hard."
But VOA Children's Services make it a little easier for Tracy Henderson.
"It helps them with social settings, being around other kids, interacting with other kids, getting them ready to go to a school setting," says Henderson.
Jharon, 3, attends the VOA's Head Start program. Dyani, 10, and Trevonne, 5, go to before and after school programs.
"Before it was get dropped off at grandma's in the morning, dropped off at grandma's in the evening," says Henderson. "It was hectic."
Now Tracy knows she can count on the Volunteers of America to teach and care for her children as she looks for work.
"She's a very driven woman," says family developer Lamonda Beaman.
Beaman helps parents set and reach goals, both for their children and for themselves.
"If a parent wants to go back to school, or home ownership or
something as simple as getting a doctor's appointment," says Beaman.
Henderson says she's found VOA Children's Services more educationally enriching and more affordable than traditional child care.
"We receive help through social services," says Henderson. "They come here through social services, and I pay a small portion."
Volunteers of America Children's Services currently serves 260 children ages six weeks to 12 years old.
