The long wait is over for a local couple trying to bring two Haitian children home to Rochester.

Josh and Elizabeth Daby are home with Johnny, 2, and Marie, 3, ready to give them a fresh start on life.

It is a homecoming many in the area have been waiting for ever since the Haiti earthquake two weeks ago.

The Dabys spent the weekend in Florida working through some last-minute hold ups to get the children transported from Haiti.

"From the time we got the phone call Saturday morning it was 48 hours until we got to the hotel with the kids in our hand," Josh explained. "Liz and I were split up, our cell phone batteries were dead, we couldn't communicate with each other. This little guy (Johnny) was dehydrated, they had to put an IV in him, it was just nuts."

The Dabys received national attention after the earthquake, which destroyed the Daby's and many other families' adoption paperwork. But the kids are finally home after two weeks of uncertainty.

"I am very glad, but very tired," Liz said. "Marie, she feels like she's running a little fever so I'm going to get her home."

Once home, the Dabys said they were going to tuck their new children into a nice warm bed and let them get a good night sleep. Josh said they will take the next month to let the children bond with their new family.

The Dabys will be the children's foster parents. There is an adoption process they must go through here in the U.S., which they expect to begin within the next 30 to 60 days.
