Some local soccer coaches were inspired by images following the earthquakes in Haiti. Not so much by the devastation, but rather dozens of kids kicking around a single soccer ball.

On Monday, Calloway Soccer Academy put on a clinic for local kids, in Irondequoit. The $5 donations will go to buy soccer balls for children in Haiti.

“This is just a little thing,” said John Poulakis, a longtime soccer coach and one of the clinic’s organizers. “But maybe in a kids eyes it would bring a smile. What more could we do as people?”

Organizers hope to raise enough money to send 300 soccer balls to Haiti.

They plan to raise more money and collect old soccer cleats and other gear at another clinic during spring break in April.
