Some members of Rochester's Jewish community are preparing for a year-long anniversary celebration. Jewish Senior Life marks 90 years in Rochester this year.
The organization's rich history will be documented in a new book called "Honoring the Promise."
Hundreds of pictures taken of the Jewish Home over the past 90 years have also been digitized and will be displayed in a timeline on its 75-acre campus in Brighton.
The Jewish Home started as a woman run nursing home on St. Paul Street that served seven residents.
Today, more than 500 people live on the campus in an independent, assisted living, or nursing home.
"Nothing that we do would be possible without the community support that we have. We have a tremendous amount of support from the Jewish community and the community at large. We have a lot of lay leadership that serve on all of our different boards and it’s all really the result of the generous time and effort of our lay leaders as well as our donors in the community that have really made this organization what it is," Jewish Senior Life President and CEO Daniel Katz said.
Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters will be in town October 17 to perform at a closing gala at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
