Harris Corporation announced Monday it plans to buy a building on Jefferson Road in Henrietta from Xerox and renovate it, creating a state-of-the-art building for its manufacturing operations.

Harris Corporation officials said that the new facility will house its RF Communications business, producing tactical and public safety radio systems. Leaders said that the move will allow them to consolidate the company's manufacturing operations into one place, improving efficiency.

"We really believe the Jefferson Road facility will take us to a new level and provide our manufacturing teams the environment they deserve to allow them to focus on the productivity year in and year out."

Officials said that about half of Harris RF's local workforce will relocate in the summer of 2011, when renovations are scheduled to be completed. The other half will stay in the Rochester facility.

Xerox employees will begin working out of their Webster facility by September 30.
