Man Charged With Trying to Sell Kids on Craigslist
A 24-year-old Brockport man was arrested Thursday, accused of trying to sell his children on craigslist. Josh Stagnitto says it’s being blown way out of proportion and that he would never do anything to put his children in harms way.

"I was looking at all the ridiculous crap on craigslist and I thought it would be, it would be funny if I put my kids on there because how more ridiculous can you possibly get," Stagnitto said with a laugh.

But police say this is no laughing matter. The New York State Police say it was contacted by the Monroe County Child Abuse hotline and the state police then called Brockport Police. Stagnitto was arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident.

"We can't just blow it off,” said Trooper Mark O’Donnell. “That's the part of it where if we were to get a complaint from the child abuse hotline and think that it's just a joke and something were to come of it then we look terrible. Certainly when it comes to children we're very serious."

Stagnitto says he now regrets ever posting the ad.

"It's definitely not the best decision I could have made,” he said. “I really didn't think it would have got blown out of proportion like this. I really did think it was a joke."

Stagnitto was issued an appearance ticket and will be in Sweden Town Court May 3.
