Alesi, a 14-year incumbent, currently holds the Senate seat for the 55th District in Monroe County. Democrat Mary Wilmot announced Saturday that she is running for the seat.

Wilmot says she's a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She currently lives in Pittsford.

Wilmot says she wants to go to Albany to fight for a property tax cap.

"Albany is dysfunctional endless bickering, fueled by the influence of special interests," she said. "I will bring new ideas and new energy to get us back on track, to promote good government serving the best interest of all New Yorkers."
