A Sunrise Walk to Promote Ovarian Cancer Detection
Hundreds of people walked the course out at Locust Hill Country Club Wednesday morning, for the annual Sunrise Walk for Women's Health at the LPGA Championship.
With the LPGA just a day away, a large number of women hit the course early for the annual 10,000-step journey, sponsored this year by the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
Ronnie Blaisdell, from the coalition said that this year, 600 people signed up, and the event is now sold out.
"Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers, and that's because it's often detected later, in its later stage, when treatment is much more difficult," Blaisdell said. "If detected early, though, ovarian cancer is 90% treatable."
So, the best advice is to know the symptoms, know your body, and if you don't feel right, see your doctor.
The walk ends with a healthy breakfast, as part of their promotion of healthy eating.
If you missed this year's Sunrise Walk, you can plan ahead for next year.
