A group of 10 and 11-year-old softball players from Fairport are among the best in the state.
The girls advanced to the
New York State Softball All-Star Tournament finals in Baldwinsville, a suburb of Syracuse.
The team left Fairport Thursday morning for the noon game. The girls earned their way to the championship by winning the Section 1 championship in the summer league.
"They've had about 12 practices, they've been at ball games - probably about eight ball games, five scrimmages on top of that – so they've been going since the middle of July, three or four times a week playing softball," said Manager James McGrath.
Despite all of the girls' hard work and preparation, the team lost the championship game to Nanuet. There will always be the pride of making it to the finals representing Fairport in the summer of 2010.
