Officials said they have made progress, but there is still no timeline for when the cleanup will be complete.

Greece police said the oil spilled after vandals tried to steal copper and sent 5,000 gallons of oil into the creek.

NYSEG and RG&E have not found evidence of oil along the Lake Ontario shoreline on either side of the creek, but crews continue to monitor the shoreline.

NYSEG reminds the public to avoid any areas where oil sheen may be visible in Slater Creek and Lake Ontario. Authorities warn against using fishing and using watercraft in the area.

RG&E is working with the DEC, NY State, the Monroe County Department of Health, and the Coast Guard in the cleanup efforts.

"We're working together. We have conference calls everyday to get up to speed on what what we have done for that day. So, hopefully, we'll be moving quickly and get things back as quickly as we can," said Timothy Walsh, DEC environmental engineer.

So far, no arrests have been made. Greece police is investigating the theft.
