Rochester police continue to investigate a shooting death on the city's east side.
Officers found a male victim at the intersection of Clifford Avenue and North Clinton Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said a man in his early 20s was shot multiple times and died from his injuries. Family members at the scene said the victim was 20 years old.
The scene got pretty emotional when the family and friends of the victim started showing up. Some had to be restrained by officers when trying to cross the crime tape.
Chief David Moore said officers did act appropriately while trying to protect the crime scene.
Police said the shooting happened after the victim got into an argument with two men after leaving a store on the corner of North Clinton Avenue and Clifford Avenue.
They said one of the two suspects fired two shots at the victim, hitting him in the chest. According to police, the victim ran 75 yards before collapsing at Clifford Avenue.
Police explained that the two suspects then ran from the scene.
A family friend of the victim said she saw the victim moments before he was shot.
"By the time we got up here I noticed all the tape and stuff and I actually saw them when they were putting the blanket over him. Then his mother darted across in front of me and I didn't know who it was. Had no idea, so, and I just grabbed her and held her and prayed with her," said Carolyn Moton, a friend of the victim's family.
"Anyone who would pull a weapon out with all the people who were in this area during this incident, it's just a violent, vicious situation and we need to find these individuals as quickly as possible," said Rochester Police Chief David Moore.
There were several surveillance cameras in the area, which police said did capture the suspects on tape.
Police said several witnesses were also at the scene and are asking anyone with any information to call 911.
