Weather Impacts Annual State Festival of Balloons
Organizers of one Livingston County festival would like to see the skies over Dansville filled with colorful balloons; Mother Nature, however, had other ideas Sunday.

A few balloons were able to go up Sunday morning at the 29th Annual New York State Festival of Balloons. Otherwise, wind grounded most of the 47 balloons this weekend.

There were still plenty of other activities to keep spectators busy, such as arts and crafts, and an antique car show.

The festival gets an average of 35,000 visitors each year, all drawn to the experience of floating above the earth.

"Oh it's a fabulous experience. It's amazing to see the world from a bird's view. I mean, you're looking down. It's very amusing to see things and there's no wind because you're traveling at the same speed. It's a fabulous experience," said Gerri Waight, festival committee president.

The arts and crafts wrapped up Sunday, but the balloons will still be there Monday.

Gerri Waight said they are planning a big celebration for next year's 30th anniversary.
