It's become a mouth-watering Buffalo tradition. The Ninth Annual National Buffalo Wing Festival wound down Sunday evening.

Restaurants from across the country showcased their takes on Buffalo's signature food.

This year, the wing festival ordered a record of more than 90,000 pounds of chicken wings and 23,000 pounds of frying oil. It was the largest chicken wing order for any festival ever in the United States.

"It brings so many people together, and buffalo's the home of chicken wings, so everybody loves it and it’s fantastic," said festival visitor, Justin Tweed.

"It showcases the Buffalo Chicken Wing, the history behind it, the legacy that Buffalo has all over the United States, as far as their influence on American culinary tradition and it’s great for the City of Buffalo," said the Director of Sales for Anchor Bar, Mark Dempsey.

Visitors came from all 50 states and 36 different countries. Organizers believe this is the largest festival in the history of the event.

The Annual United States Chicken Wing Eating Contest was held Sunday afternoon at the festival.

Competitive Eating Champion, Joey Chestnut, was the fan favorite and predicted winner.

But reigning Chicken Wing Eating Champion, Sonya Thomas beat Chestnut and reclaimed her title.
