Fire Damages East Avenue Apartment
One man suffered burns and smoke inhalation in an apartment fire in Brighton.

The fire started shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eastwood apartment complex on East Avenue. Investigators believe the fire started in a couch or chair.

When they arrived, they found a man outside on the ground.

"The fire was contained to that apartment, it started like I said in that living room area and it started to make its way out into the rest of the apartment, we were able to get in there and knock it down before it progressed much further," said Aaron Hiller, Brighton fire chief.

The man was taken to Strong Hospital for treatment. His name has not yet been released. Firefighters said he was conscious when they arrived.
