A standoff between a man and Greece Police ended peacefully late Wednesday night.
Police and firefighters were called to a home on Latta Road around 9 p.m. for a report of a man trying to set the house on fire. When they arrived they did not find a fire but did notice some smoke outside the home.
A man and a woman who called police got out safely but the man suspected of setting the fire barricaded himself inside.
"It looked like it was possibly a domestic incident inside. They were not really involved with the suspect. They had no idea why he was acting that way. He was definitely acting erratically. He was armed with a sword. When we arrived he put the sword down," said Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter.
Police said they took the man into custody without incident.
He went to the hospital for a mental evaluation. Police said he faces charges including arson.
