An indoor water park closer to Rochester is on its way to making a big splash. Once that happens, it will become one of the only water parks in the Rochester-Buffalo area.
Right now a portion of the Clarion Hotel in Batavia doesn’t look like much. Soon it will be a piece of your very own palm island, right in the middle of Western New York.
“We are going to have a lot of palm trees in this side. The pool designs have a lot of island themes,” said Chan Patel, owner of the Clarion Hotel of Batavia.
The Palm Island Indoor Water Park will be loaded with waterslides as tall as 24 feet high and 200 feet long. The 12,000 square foot park is a part of Patel’s vision.
“In Western New York, the winter is very hard and business is very slow in the winter time,” said Patel. “We are looking for something year around, recreation.”
From waterslides to an arcade room, Patel says Palm Island will have something for everyone.
“We are targeting the 60 mile radius market. It’s Buffalo and Rochester right now, but even people are inquiring from Corning,” said Patel.
The water park is expected to open by the end of August of this year. Batavia Town Board Member Patti Michalak says the town is in full support of the $2 million project.
“Batavia is in a great spot because we are between Buffalo and Rochester, and we are seeing a lot more businesses, commercial, wanting to come to Batavia. We are very excited,” said Michalak.
Admission prices aren’t set yet. Patel says they may range from $15 to $17.
