While it was a sunny first day of spring, warming temperatures may lead to an unpleasant sight, one that greeted Greece residents living on Lake Ontario Sunday.
Thousands of dead fish covered the top of Cranberry Pond off of Edgemere Drive in Greece Sunday morning.
A fish kill is often caused by reduced oxygen in the water, which can be due to a number of reasons, including a sustained increase in water temperature.
"This is ridiculous. This is the first year I've actually seen it like this. I've lived down here about three years and last year it wasn't like this. As you see, there are thousands of fish just up and down the shore," said Greece Resident Collin Wilfeard.
Wilfeard said he usually catches carp, bass, wall-eye and pike when he fishes in Cranberry Pond.
